The Wildlife Warriors Fund is back !

Firstly ,for those who haven't been catching up with us lately , we are a huge and enthusiastic bunch of students from secondary who work to raise money and awareness for the wildlife .

And yes we're new ,but WE EXIST . And yes , WE'RE A REAL COMMITTEE .
(Sorry .... I had to get that off the system first .)

Second, I think there's a huge misunderstanding about all of this . Some thought that all the money goes to the Student Councils' horn bills .

But that's why you're so wrong ! That was the plan at first , but after much thought into this Ms . Shiamala , Malcolm and I thought , hey why help 2 big birds when you can help the whole zoo instead ?!

So the money goes to Zoo Negara .

Complaints about Canteen.

As some of you might noticed, Shaun and a few councillors were roaming around the canteen getting feedbacks from students about the canteen.

We would really appreciate if you guys could give your remarks about the canteen to us so we could help you with it :)

3 aspects that we are touching ; hygience, variety, and pricing.

While Mexico and more than 20 other countries are fighting for this lives against the current ~~swine~~ H1N1 flu, Sri Garden (and the students of course) have something else to worry about.

I'm sure that most of you are aware of the recent robbery cases happening around the school area which have been ongoing for the past few months. If you don't, here's the news flash.

Another student has just been robbed this morning while on his way to school at approximately 7.30 a.m. in the back alley leading to the school canteen.
(Identity is disclosed, but I'm sure some of us know.)

This is getting from bad to worse. While we cannot predict when or how it might happen to us, there are a few precautions that we can take to avoid such a misfortune. Let's all be careful while walking OUTSIDE of the school compound which includes the back alley leading to the school canteen, the main exit/road of the school and pretty much everywhere else. Pepper spray may not work, but I strongly suggest that you start carrying one around. (Parangs and weapons like such are not necessary.)

Though the Student Council is NOT responsible of the security of the students, we would like to advise those who walks home or to the LRT station to BE CAREFUL.

Like it? (I do! I mean, seriously, I really do.)

Anyways, I apologize for the delay in getting the blog a new look. Clearly, the blog has been dead for several weeks but the Council promises you this: that we will try our very best to keep this blog as updated as possible. We make no gurantees that there will be new posts and articles everyday, but there will surely be something for you to read about. :)

If you have any comments on the new layout, do post them on the Cbox (which I have edited so that its longer now!) as well as if you're interested in exchanging links with the Council blog, leave a message too!

Did you know that the Student Council have a pet ?Well 2 pets to be precise .

Where are they ? You may ask . Well we don't keep them in school or in our homes of course .
It's not that we don't love them or anything like that , but keeping two large birds -the size of a Golden Retriever wouldn't be too smart would it?

Yes my dear , they're huge !!! They're not mutated by the way . Just.......... Well.....Erm....... Big bone ?

So where can you find our beloved pets , you ask ?

In Zoo Negara of course !
That's because our pets are Hornbills !

Meet Samoq Beri . Our 9 year old male Hornbill .

And our Mah Meri , a 6 year old female Hornbill .

Now you see why we can't keep our feathery friends in school , Mr Khaw would have our heads !

On our latest meeting between the councillors yesterday, we' ve discussed on a few matters about activities and sorts for you guys :) and boy, the meeting was quite long and you would never want to guess where we had it :P

Among those are,
1) The upcoming 'SG Next Top Talent' . Show us your talents, guys!
2) The Sports Carnival which consist of sports like Tennis, Basketball, Netball, Football, Badminton.
3) The donations of our dearest two Hornbills.
4) A setting up of Student Council desk at the canteen.
5) The Spirit Programme. You will all be acknowledge about this soon :)
6) A possible IFF.

Well all of the above are not confirmed, so please do not think it is a 100% kind of thing :D
July will be a really busy month for us and you guys should be looking forward to the month of July . There will be activities line up for you.

Any of you play MapleStory? Or Ragnarok Online? Cabal? DoTA?

Or any online game for that matter?

Now, imagine if everyone used hacks, cheats and bots and stuff. That’d be quite a wrecked game for you.

That isn’t the worst case scenario.

Imagine if your opponent gets +2000 000 off a normal creep 5 seconds into the game. Enough to buy a Black King Bar, Guinsoo, Dagon and any other item he wants. Enough to go on a killing spree for the rest of the round. GG for you.

You know what? He’s not doing anything wrong. He’s not hacking, cheating or whatever.

Why?

Because, in this example, there’re no rules saying what is right and what is wrong, what is cheating and what is not cheating.

Of course, this is quite an exaggerated example. Of course, DoTA has such rules. But, I know something which doesn’t have rules.

The Students’ Council.

Five years of existence. Five years of people saying that the Students’ Council represents the Students. Five years of other people saying something else.

Five years of confusion and uncertainty.

Time has come for us to set things straight, once and for all, to put things down on paper, in black and white.

Time has come for the Constitution of the Students’ Council.

The Constitution will be our set of rules, the rules we play by. You’ll know when we’re cheating (read: not doing our job) because the Constitution will tell you clearly and specifically what we’re supposed to do. We will know what to do because the Constitution tells us clearly and specifically.

2009 will be different. 2010 will be different. 2011 will be different. 2012 will be different.

The Constitution makes this difference.

From now on, look forward to a Council with a clear direction, one that is more responsible to you. Not just for this year, but for the years to come.

I will be following this post up with a posting of the actual draft of the Constitution, in-depth posts on certain crucial clauses, and plans for the approval of the Constitution.

Flash Update: Council's Core

Guys, I have bad news.

There is some extent of disagreement as to the purpose of the Council.

Some people think that it should be representing the views of the Students. Some people think that it should be improving the School (which may not be following the views of the Students). Some people think it should be both (which, of course, brings up the question of how to determine the proper balance between the two)

The very essence of the Council is being debated.

Not that I’m against free speech and/or open debate, but, we have to settle the purpose of the Council once and for all. This is seriously hindering our planning for the year.

That’s just a flash update on what’s currently going on with the Council. I’m going to follow this up with plans for discussion with you and the teachers. Feel free to MSN me and give your opinions on this issue.

On Hand Phones

Sorry for the delay, guys. Was caught up in discussions with the rest of the Executive Committee on this Issue.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand, here’re the essentials of what transpired at the meeting.

Several issues arising from the use of hand phones has led the School to reconsider its policy on hand phones. These were the issues the School was concerned with:
1. Usage of hand phones to cheat during exams
2. Usage of hand phones during class
3. Usage of hand phones during break and lunch and in the mornings(when Students could be studying)
4. Usage of hand phones to spread pornography (not explicitly mentioned at the meeting but could be something that led to the School’s reconsideration)

However, the School also has acknowledged the usage of hand phones to contact parents after school and to look for friends/teachers in other parts of the School.

The general consensus is that if those issues justify the ban, then the ban will be put in place.

I need to work out a clear policy on this, something with the consensus of the Executive Committee.

But, here’re my preliminary ideas on how to proceed with this.

1. We’re going to check out the statistics on those issues, i.e. the exact number of Students who use hand phones during class, to see if the ban can be fairly placed on the whole Student population.

2. I personally reject issue 3. There’s nothing wrong with using hand phones during break and lunch. We’re not supposed to be studying during those times anyway. Just a preliminary argument. Not fully developed yet.

3. We’re going to ask the School to delay the implementation of the ban by four months. Two months to reduce the severity of Issue 1 and 2 to an acceptable level and the other two months to maintain this level.

Guys, this is very important. This is not yet official. Those suggestions are what I’m pushing to the Executive Committee. General Meeting is on Wednesday. Feel free to talk with me over MSN on this issue or drop in at our General Meeting to listen to our policy-making on this issue.

Recently, there have been a few complaints concerning the clashing of SG Interact's I.U Night with Earth Day. However, of course, there is an explanation to that:

Terrance Lee, the President said:
We are aware that the event clashes with Earth Hour but we cannot jus change our plans as we hav planned this event since last year. For your information, the Sri Garden Interact has publicized the Earth Hour in our blogspot. And to everybody, we already have plans to have the Earth Hour to be relevant in the I.U day. So, to sum1, pls come this Saturday, watch and find out what are we going to do in this event. Anyway, Sri Garden Interact does not mind ppl callin our event I.U Day or I.U Night, just come and support us!!!

And to ‘me’, the event is at night but doesn’t mean that we cannot call it I.U Day. If you are born at night, doesn’t mean that you will call that particular date your birthnight.

So there is nothing to worry. On the contrary, you can still turn off your lights at home even before 8.30pm, and celebrate Earth Hour by heading over to Sri Garden and enjoy the Interact & Youthact club's I.U Night. There will be plenty of entertainment, good food and nontheless, you'll have a good time. Win-win situation :)

Regarding the IFF issue, things have yet to be confirmed. But please, do not fret because the Council is in the midst of working something out. Please be patient. Thank you.

Considering a request from a student, coverage (pictures only, actually) from the Hokuryo High School Exchange programme will be posted up (hopefully) by this weekend. We're very sorry for the delay.

Also, do not forget that Sports Day falls on the 10th of April 2009 (Friday). Heats (running events) and finals (jumping & throwing events) will be conducted next week (refer to schedule in class), while Sports Day will be held the following Friday. Remember to support and cheer for your respective houses!

On a side note, the Council has cooked up a very special programme for students from the Secondary Section to participate. This is however still a secret but please, do look forward to whatever the Council has in store for you. :)

To sum it up, there will be a new layout for this blog very soon.

Hey Everyone!

In conjunction with the upcoming special event!
EARTH HOUR! happening on this Saturday!! at 8:30pm! 28March 09.!
so having heard a couple of comments from the students. I'm glad to share with you what is actually earth hour!

Earth Hour is an hour where everybody around the world off their power for 1 hour to save the usage of the power and mother nature!....!

Do you agree? haha.. how can you not? thats what almost everyone is saying and is partially true........ but..!

oh boy are you lost or are you just not getting the message right.! ;)

Earth Hour is a movement for our planet!
HOW is it a movement for our planet! its simple!
Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth,
and Leaving them on is a vote for global warming.

So! I really hope everyone understands what Earth Hour is.
We Urge everyone to participate in this history making event!
By the way, just to let everyone know and to be very very clear.
There are Student Council members who are in the Interact Club, and i would like to highlight that when any Student Council member who approached you asking you buy a ticket for IU night!
It has nothing to do with the Student Council and they are representing the Interact Club.

SG Cross Country 2009

PHENOMENAL.

First and foremost, the Council would like to congratulate all the winners of the cross country run today as well as everyone else who did their best in finishing the race and scoring points for their respective houses.

The Council would also like to congratulate the Green House and its members for (still) leading as well as being the Champion of the Standard Sports 2009. Truly phenomenal :)

Not forgetting, congratulations to the Blue House for emerging as the overall Champion for the Cross Country Run 2009.

As it seems, the event was conducted smoothly (to Mr Aru's relief) and everything went as planned. So give yourself a pat on the back :)

SC: Anything regarding IFF is yet to be confirmed . We will discuss this with Mr Khaw and the presidents of respective clubs .

Ejin: Eh im curious since this is student council wouldnt it better to have a forum rather than a blog?

SC: Thank you for your suggestion. We will definitely consider having a forum and if it benefits the students. At the moment, we are sticking to the blog first and if there is anything that you would like to comment or discuss, you could always put a long comment at the end of a post. On top of that, if you prefer communicating face-to-face, you can always approach any SC executives in school. We don't bite :)

kist: you should have a credits link. JUST SUGGESTING, SHAUN!

SC: for what huh, head prefect?! just kidding, but really, what for? O.o

EdwardCullen: How many sports are the students able to participate in? Eg, if I want to go into 100m, can i also go for Long Jump?

SC: According to the sports rules set by Mr Aru last year, yes you can. However, we would need to clarify with Mr Aru once again just to make sure. We will get back to this issue as soon as possible.

Form3: the school fee is keep up raising!! can the school reduce?

SC: We feel your pain. We pay school fees too. Well, on the matter of school fees, we've done research and found out that the Taylor's Education Group can keep its accounts a secret. We can always ask the School to lower the school fees but it's gonna be tough getting the School to actually lower them, without the information about the School accounts.

Form2: Is there anyway to make school activites everyday like japanese schools? It is so boring we need to relax

SC: There are many school activities planned our for the year 2009. However, unfortunately lessons must be carried out as usual. We can try working with the teachers, if you want. But, the academic system in Malaysia is very exam-oriented. So, if you want to get straight As in your SPM/PMR, there isn't much we can do. But, if you have an open and independent mind, and have a real interest in learning about the world, maybe we can move in that direction.

Presidential Stuff Totally Related to Life

Does Shaun have a life?

Some think I don’t.

Some say that the Council’s life is my life (****, I have to amend the Constitution)

Some say that the Council is taking over me.

Believe me, I know.

Apart from the fact that he’s the first person (usually) to know if a foreign, alien, hostile body is trying to launch a full-scale, all-out invasion on his own life, a Councillor will know when all everyone at a party (that is, if he goes to one) asks him goes along the lines of,

“How’s the Council going?”

Or something like that.

As much as I would like people to believe otherwise, that would be partly true. But, also simultaneously, logically and obviously partly false (****, I’ve got to call Mellissa).

So here’s what I do when I’m not setting deadlines for the Council, typing blog posts or preparing speeches or calling people.

Right now, (other than typing this blog post) I’m drifting aimlessly on the Internet from blog to blog, Wikipedia article to Wikipedia article, etc. etc. That takes up a whole lot of my time (what’s left of my time, I mean). When have time to spare, I watch all sorts of movies. Movies-for-the-guys, chick flicks, historical epics, fantasy epics, historical biopics, fantasy biopics, whatever.

****, I’ve got to check something with Rachel.

I used to play computer games once. Then, I started playing with buddies. Now, no one plays them anymore. They seem to not have the punch in them anymore.

Anyway, that’s a short insight into the things in your President’s life which are totally related to life.
